“Apparent authority is that authority which the principal has held the agent out as possessing or which he has permitted the agent to represent [the agent] possesses[,]” and the principal’s liability “must be determined by what authority the third person in the exercise of reasonable care was justified in believing” the principal conferred to the agent. Bookman v. Britthaven, Inc., 233 N.C. App. 454, 458, 756 S.E.2d 890, 894 (2014).
