A person in the place of a parent or someone who has assumed the status and obligations of a parent without a formal adoption. Shook v. Peavy<\/a>, 23 N.C.App. 230, 208 S.E.2d 433 (1974); G.S. \u00a7 50-13.4<\/p>\n\n\n\n

INTERLOCUTORY<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

An order is “interlocutory” if is \u201cdoes not dispose of the case, but leaves it for further action by the trial court in order to settle and determine the entire controversy.\u201d Veazey v. Durham, 231 N.C. 357, 362, 57 S.E.2d 377, 381 (1950).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs a general rule, there is no right of appeal from an interlocutory order.\u201d Edwards v. Foley, 253 N.C. App. 410, 411, 800 S.E.2d 755, 756 (2017). However, \u201cimmediate appellate review of an interlocutory order is available . . . when the interlocutory order affects a substantial right under N.C. Gen. Stat. \u00a7 1-277(a)[.]\u201d Hill v. StubHub, Inc., 219 N.C. App. 227, 232, 727 S.E.2d 550, 554 (2012).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Interlocutory orders are subject to appellate review if (1) the order is final as to some claims or parties, and the trial court certifies pursuant to N.C. Gen.Stat. \u00a7 1A\u20131, Rule 54(b) that there is no just reason to delay the appeal, or (2) the order deprives the appellant of a substantial right that would be lost unless immediately reviewed.
